Glossary
- Median
- The middle value of a sorted list. Half the laptops cost less than it and half cost more; one very expensive laptop doesn’t pull it up.
- RAM
- The laptop’s working memory: how much fits open at once without freezing. The more RAM, the more tabs, spreadsheets and programs together.
- SSD
- The storage that holds the system and your files. It opens the system and programs much faster than a regular drive; the size, in GB, tells you how much fits.
- Processor generation
- The release year of the processor family. A newer generation is usually more efficient, but the score compares using the Radar’s table and doesn’t measure real performance.
- Spec sheet score
- Score from 0 to 10 that the Radar calculates from performance, memory and storage, screen, portability e ports and how current it is. It doesn’t measure what the specs don’t show.

Frequently asked questions
What is the median price of a new laptop today?
In the 06/11/2026 catalog, the median price is £745, across 154 new laptops from trusted sellers. Half cost less than that and half cost more.
How much does each score point cost?
It depends on the range: about £112 among the lowest scores and about £584 among the highest. The math divides the difference in median price by the difference in median score between neighboring ranges.
Why the median and not the average?
Because a few very expensive laptops pull the average up and hide the price most people pay. The median shows the laptop in the middle.
How often does the overview change?
Every day, with each new collection. Each collection saves a snapshot of the price and score of each laptop, and the "What changed" section compares today’s with the previous one and, when available, with the one from about a week earlier.

Where the numbers come from
Lowest price seen for the product on Amazon.co.uk, delivered to London SW1A 1AA, on the day it was read, including VAT. Median of each range calculated over the laptops in the range; the score only considers the laptops that have a score.
The overview describes the Radar catalog, not the whole laptops market, and the price is the one collected on the date shown.
